Advanced Materials and Manufacturing

Fayetteville's Science and Engineering Center for Nano and Micro Systems and the Manufacturing Research Laboratories are both engaged in groundbreaking research in MEMS and microelectronic packaging and integration, nanomanufacturing, and surface engineering for advanced machining.

Materials and Manufacturing

Dr. Ajay P. Malshe serves as director of these two facilities and is an award-winning researcher in the field of advanced materials and manufacturing. Dr. Malshe has initiated the development of nano-particle composite coatings, femtosecond laser for chemically clean nano-machining, wafer level chip scale packaging of MEMS and related microsystems, and nano-mechanical machining system-on-a-chip. He is also currently working with a team of university researchers to advance emerging RFID technology.

The two centers have ongoing collaborations with various large corporations and small businesses in the U.S in addition to international collaboration projects. With the expertise and knowledge allocation in advanced materials and manufacturing, the centers serve as tremendous assets to firms seeking university partnerships for research and technology advancement.
